Warning! Toxic Chinese Rice Loaded with Plastic is Flooding Grocery Store Shelves

Wuchang rice is very popular in China it has a nice fragrance and taste and its long grain is in high demand in China and now the rest of the world.

Great popularity and demand however comes with a price as unscrupulous individuals have mimicked this rice to produce a fake and highly toxic products made up of various species of potatoes and extremely poisonous plastic materials.

It is believed that these pirates had been producing and selling this brand of rice for nearly four years now deceiving consumers into believing that they were purchasing the real deal.

This fake product looks like the original brand at face value with a similar shape and size but with one major difference which is only discovered when purchased and cooked. The “rice” remains hard after hours of cooking and it is extremely detrimental to the health of anyone that consumes it.

How they fake Wuchang rice

It was discovered by an undercover journalists that what these pirates do is to mix some original Wuchang rice with the fake one and then spray fragrances that mimic that of the original making it extremely hard to know the difference except after purchase and during cooking.

They even package their brand of ‘fake rice’ is similar packages as the original brand.

What is startling is that Wuchang produces about 800,000 tons of rice annually, but figures suggest that over 10 million tons of supposed Wuchang rice is sold annually. What this suggests is that over 9 million tons of this fake rice is sold annually.

It was reported in the Korea Times that when distributors were asked about this fake rice they suggested that it was highly profitable to sell it as there was demand for it both within China and abroad in places such as Singapore, Vietnam and India.

Investigations are currently in top gear by the National Food Authority of the Republic of the Philippines and they are now using a device called a spectroscopy to determine if the rice on sale is the original of fake brand. They have also issued a serious warning to both consumers and distributors of this fake product, warning that perpetrators will be prosecuted.

Implication of consuming this fake rice to your health

It is believed that when you consume three bowls of this plastic rice you might as well be consuming a plastic bag.

This has serious health implications to the consumer as the person is more than likely to have serious digestive tract issues.

If this fake rice is consumed everyday then the health risk of the individual will rich critical proportions. This in fact is the case in China and indeed the South Asian countries where rice is the staple food of most indigenes. It is believed that the average Chinese man consumes about half a pound of rice daily.

What is also frightening is the fact that there has been ongoing debate as to whether the use of plastic bags for packaging should be banned or not because of its health problems let alone the fact that people are actually consuming plastic materials as food.

Bisphenol A is a class of chemicals known as phthalates which is found in plastics. This chemical is believed to inhibit our hormonal functions such as estrogen. In animal studies carried out it was seen that their reproductive organs were adversely affected by the chemical.

It is interesting to note that phthalates have been banned in the EU since 2005 and they are a group of plasticizers that are known to affect testosterone in men.

It is possible that we all have some detectable amounts of bisphenol A and phthalates in our body system as a result of the contamination of our food source that are stored in plastics, whether they be plastic jars, plates, cups or bowls. This been said it gets worse if the plastics are actually ingested as it is the case with the fake Wuchang rice.

While there has been no case of this plastic rice in the U.S vigilance and strict regulation must be carried out to ensure that it never gets into the country.
