Be Careful: Instant noodles are very unhealthy and cause many dangerous diseases
In the past years people do not have much time for cooking and they turn to instant food. This is the reason that instant noodles have become very popular for a quick meal especially with college students. We all know that they are not healthy food, but we are certainly not aware of the fact that they can cause many serious diseases. We usually compare them to fast food.
An experiment has been made by Dr.Braden Kuo, which can make us rethink about consuming instant noodles.
In this experiment a camera, in the size of a pill has been used in order to see what actually happens in the stomach and the digestive tract after consuming ramen noodles. They we very surprised by the results.
Ramen noodles do not decompose for many hours of digestion
From the camera, used in the experiment it was seen that ramen noodles stayed intact even after two hours. The same happened with homemade ramen noodles, which were used to see if there is anything different. This is a very concerning finding.
The first thing is that it can cause tension to the digestive system which works for hours to digest this food and without any result. This is so strange because, the majority of processed food has lack of fiber and usually degrades very fast, increasing the levels of sugar in the blood by releasing insulin.
What is very common for food that stays in the digestive tract for longer period is that it affects the absorption but with ramen noodles they do not have much nutrition. They are actually full with additives like the toxic preservative tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ).
These additives will stay in the stomach together with the intact noodles and have a negative effect on your health. This is not a good thing…
TBHQ is very lethal with just five grams of noodle preservative
TBHQ is considered to be an antioxidant but it is actually ‘a synthetic chemical with antioxidant properties’. This chemical allows the processed food to remain longer period in the digestive tract, by impeding the fats and oils to oxidize.
This is an ingredient which is used very often in all processed foods like Teddy Grahams ,Red, Taco Bell beans, McDonald’s chicken nuggets, Baron frozen pizza, Kellogg’s CHEEZ-IT crackers, Wheat Thins crackers, Reese’s peanut butter cups, and many other.
TBHQ is also used in lacquers, varnishes and pesticides, cosmetic products and perfumes to help improve stability and lower the evaporation.
The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives stated that TBHQ is not poisonous for people if the levels are below 0-0.5mg/kg.
But the Codex commission increased the ‘safe’ limits up to between 100 to as much as 400mg/kg depending on the type of food it is used in. For example chewing gum contains the most TBHQ. The Food and Drug Administration in the United States demand that the TBHQ must not be higher than 0.02 % of the content of oil and fat.
So there is a difference between the opinions of what actually is a safe limit of TBHQ. As an advice it is best not to be exposed at all to TBHQ, due to the fact that five grams can be lethal. In the ‘’ Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives, is stated that consumption of even 1 gram of this can lead to:
- Nausea and vomiting,
- Suffocation feeling,
- Ringing in the ears
It is being assumed that the body can eliminate TBHQ so it does not bioaccumulate, due to the fact that it is not a persistent toxicant. But constant consummation of instant noodles may expose your body to TBHQ for longer period. And this is something to be concerned about. The Environmental Working Group (EWG), states that this health conditions can be cause by TBHQ consumption:
- Biochemical alterations even from small amounts,
- Liver damages at very small amounts,
- Changes in the reproductive processes at big amounts,
- Mutation effects on the cells of mammals from in vitro.
Instant Noodles can cause Metabolic Syndrome
A new study published in the Journal of Nutrition showed that women who ate instant noodles have a bigger risk of metabolic syndrome than the women, who did not eat, despite their diet or exercise habits. So you should reconsider consuming instant noodles.
The results are astonishing; the women who consumed instant noodles several times a week have even 68% more risk of having metabolic syndrome- a group of symptoms like: increased blood sugar which fasts the liver, increased blood pressure, increased fasting triglycerides, weight gain and decreased amounts of HDL cholesterol.
Having these symptoms and not necessarily all of them can lead to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Another research showed another negative impact that instant noodles have on our body. It has researched the nutrient intake between people who eat instant noodles and people who do not eat instant noodles, and the result was expected-instant noodles do not contain many healthy nutrients.
People who ate instant noodles did not import all the needed nutrients like calcium, iron, protein, vitamin A, phosphorus, niacin, potassium and vitamin C. Instead they had an excessive intake of unhealthy fats, energy and sodium (about 2,700 milligrams of sodium with just one package).
What other ingredients are there in a package of Instant Noodles?
Besides the high levels of sodium and preservative TBHQ, we ask the question of what else is there in a package of instant noodles. Prevent Disease replied:
“The dried noodle block was originally created by flash frying cooked noodles, and this is still the main method used in Asian countries, though air-dried noodle blocks are favored in Western countries. The main ingredients of the dried noodle are wheat flour, palm oil, and salt. Common ingredients of the flavoring powder are salt, monosodium glutamate, seasoning, and sugar.
…In June 2012, the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) found Benzopyrene (a cancer-causing substance) in six brands of noodles made by Nong Shim Company Ltd. Although the KFDA said the amounts were minuscule and not harmful, Nong Shim did identify particular batches of noodles with a problem, prompting a recall by October 2012.”
Also what the instant noodles contain is monosodium glutamate (MSG) and it has a very dangerous effect on the health. It is excitotoxin, which actually damages the cells by overexciting them and it can also lead to cell death. This can also cause bad brain function or even worse health conditions like provoking or aggravating the abilities to learn, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and many other.
Another thing that needs to be mentioned is that MSG contains about 78 percent free glutamic acid. This free glutamic acid is the identical neurotransmitter that is used by our nervous system, eyes, brain, pancreas and many more of our organs and it is essential for the start of some processes in the body. The monosodium glutamate has some fattening properties, for example for mice to gain weight for some researches. So try to throw out MSG from your menu at all costs if you want to have the perfect body and good health, because it has been identified as the perfect obesity drug.
Protect your Health and do not eat processed food
If you sometimes eat or crave for instant noodles or some other processed food it won’t do any harm to your health, but in case you change whole, living food for the processed foot, it is not a question when you will start to develop some health problems. We can use the instant noodles as an example of a very dangerous processed food if consumed regularly, because they will definitely bring you health problems especially with obesity.This type of unhealthy food cause many serious conditions and obesity, due to their content which is rich with fructose, purified carbohydrate, sugar and many other ingredients which are not natural. Procecessed food doesnot contain healthy nutrients and fiber.
Processed food has the ability to make you crave for more and can make you addictive, leading to weight gain. Processed food can cause insulin resistance and chronic inflammation, which are the starting phase of some serious and chronic diseases. In the past people have only used and consumed fruits, meats, vegetables, , eggs, , and other healthy foods, and the processed food is being used from not very long ago.
It is maybe more difficult to consume only whole and cooked food because you will need more time to prepare and plan your meals, but if you make a little effort you can manage to do it and throw out processed food from your menu for good. You can choose your fresh food from the market or even in the supermarket, and find the best seasonal food there is. This way you can create your weekly menu and shop in advance, or you can even prep your food in advance so if you do not have a lot of time to cook lunch it will be easier and faster. And if you make it more than you need you can eat it the next day instead of instant noodles.
