Study: Purple Potatoes Help Prevent Colon Cancer

According to mainstream oncology, colon cancer or colorectal is the number two cancer killer in the country. However, many of those who have been stricken with colon cancer able to survive this disease through “alternative” therapies.

One of the known example is Chris Wark from “Chris Beat Cancer”. Chris encourage other who also beat cancer without losing their health condition through normal cut (surgery), poison (chemotherapy), and burn (radiation therapy) to share their success stories in his “Chris Beat Cancer” website.

However, the best way to defeat color cancer is to prevent it by avoid the standard American Diet (SAD), exercise enough and avoid being stressful in this modern living. Besides, there is also certain food that can help in preventing colon cancer, purple potatoes.

The Color Purple

Purple potatoes are rich in anthocyanins which go after colon cancer stem cells. This is very important because stem cells are the mother of cells.

The conventional oncology treatments are unable to destroy cancer stem cells which means the stem cells remain free and may create cancer cells again in the future. This is the reason why cancer can reappears even after being cleanse through chemotherapy or radiation.

Recently, Penn State study used cooked potatoes for their study baked instead of raw purple potatoes to confirm the theory that anthocyanins can destroy cancer stem cells. The used of baked potatoes in their in vitro and in vivo study showed positive result which was able to reverse tumor growth.

Pen State said that cancer stem cells are similar to roots of the weeds. Even after we cut the weed, as long as the root remain, the weed can keep growing back. The same thing goes for cancer, as long as cancer stem cells are still inside the body, the cancer always have the possibility to grow and spread.

You can easily find purple potatoes in most health food stores. Purple potatoes tend to be too small for baking. So to prepare them, you can cut and boil them. Then mash them and mix with real sea salt and organic butter.

After you boil the purple potatoes, you can then make a potato salad. Prepare your own healthy mayonnaise or you can also buy a healthy version of mayonnaise that contain no canola (rapeseed) oil or soy oil.

However, purple potatoes are not the only source of anthocyanins. Some other food that also contain anthocyanins are plums and dark red of tart cherries. But of course those fruits are not for cooked. You have to eat them raw. You can also throw a few cherries into the purple potato salad.

How about Resistant Starches?

Purple potatoes contains a high amount of resistant starch. This type of starch is not rapidly digested to create sugar. However, during the cooking process it will disappear. But after the foods cool off it will return.

After refrigerated and eating at room temperature, potatoes, both white and purple, also pasta and peas has this resistant starch. Resistant starch contains chlorogenic acid, a powerful antioxidant that can fight tumor. To get the most benefit of the acid, eat the potatoes in raw or cook it then cool it using refrigerator and eat at room temperature.

Janine Higgins, a researched from the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine explained that resistant starch can be found in beans, peas, and other legumes, green bananas. She said that it can also be found in cooked and cooled starchy products like pasta salad and sushi rice. You have to consume it at room temperature or below because the moment you heat it, the resistant starch is gone. But as long as you consume it properly, then it can help to kill pre-cancerous cells in the bowel.

Now you know that purple potato salad combine with a few raw tart cherries can protect you against colon cancer. So why don’t you start to adopt it into your diet?
