Quaker Oats Is Being Sued For Putting A Cancer-Causing Pesticide In Their Oatmeal

Quaker Oats Is a name synonymous with oatmeal and their oatmeal has been a regular breakfast feature for most hones for decades.

However, the marketing strategy of the company has been to promote the theme of 100% Natural Whole Grain which is part of their products label and in bold print.

The idea is to sell a brand that is already known and loved as well as a product that satisfies the demand for organic and natural products by an ever growing organic products preferential consumer group.

The label put forward by this super brand is however misleading and customers from New York and California have filed a lawsuit against the company as it has been discovered through research that an oatmeal of this famous company has traces of a pesticide known as glyphosate.

Test were carried out on Quaker Oats Quick 1-Minute oatmeal at an independent lab in California. It was stated that the research involved the use of chromatography-mass spectrometry, a process that is used mainly by chemical and medical labs for drug testing and study.

The study discovered that traces of glyphosate were found in Quaker Oats Quick 1-Minute oatmeal.

The volume of the chemical found in the oatmeal was lower than the legally permissible limits but the company was still sued for “false advertising” as it claimed that it’s product was 100% organic and natural.

In their response Quaker Oats stated that they did not use the pesticide on their product that it must have come from the farmers.

They also further stated that the glyphosate found in the oatmeal were trace amounts that were noticeably below the limits prescribed by the E.P.A as being safe for human consumption.

Glyphosate is an active component for a lot of pesticides which are sprayed on crops both locally and internationally.

This chemical had been condemned by food activists for decades as they claim that it’s use could lead to serious health complications.

In 1974 glyphosate was created and it has been a pesticide ingredient most often used since then.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (which is part of the World Health Organization) in 2015 categorised glyphosate as a “probable” cause of cancer and tumors.

It has even been revealed that this chemical is responsible for several long-term health complications like birth defects.

Research in Paraguay found that pregnant women exposed to the chemical had a higher risk of giving birth to babies with birth defects.

Scientists believe that birth defects a higher with pregnant women exposed to this chemical because it inhibits the vitamin A in the pregnant woman and this vitamin is crucial to fetal development.

It is also believed that Roundup which is a popular pesticide that comprises of glyphosate could be responsible for Attention Deficit Disorder in farming regions and communities. Scientists believe that glyphosate in Roundup disrupts the functions of the thyroid hormone.

It is now known that serotonin production in the body is greatly affected by glyphosate and this leads to mood swings, sleeping disorders, depression and a loss of appetite.

However, when your favourite cereal is free from harmful chemicals they can be extremely beneficial to your health.
