When swollen varicose veins prevent blood flow to the heart, blood starts to collect in the veins. Varicose veins most commonly occur in the area of the joints and lower legs.
These swellings are generally the result of long standing or sitting, blood disorder, lack of physical activity, pregnancy or obesity.
Also, varicose veins can lead to blockage in the deep veins, also known as deep vein thrombosis. Fortunately this health condition is not too dangerous and can be treated with home remedies, as well as by changing some habits such as prolonged sitting and standing.
Great is the number of people suffering from venous thrombosis and varicose veins but women are more affected than men.
