Cough mixtures that you buy over the counter and from either a drug store or a pharmacist cost a lot of money, often do not work and are filled with tons of ingredients that you do not know anything about. They are also filled with sugar!
Try this natural recipe that is not only tasty and delicious but is sure to work too. It will soothe your sore throat, loosen a tight chest, clear your sinuses and make you feel better very quickly.
The ingredients are all herbal and natural and you could grow them in your very own garden.
Lemon juice is a high source of Vitamin C and honey has natural anti-bacterial qualities. Honey is also a natural cough suppressant. Ginger helps boost the immune system and has anti-inflammatory qualities too. It can help with pain relief and nausea too. Cloves have antiseptic qualities and is packed to the brim with antioxidants.
Use organic ingredients where possible. Also, use fresh ingredients but if you do not have fresh then dried or packaged ingredients will work as well.
- Lemon juice
- Hot water
- Fall a saucepan with water and squeeze in the juice of one lemon
- Add a tablespoon of honey and mix slowly
- Add half a teaspoon of ginger. If you have raw ginger, grate it and pour it in
- Add a quarter teaspoon of cloves
- Slowly heat the mixture but do not allow it to boil
- Leave it to simmer for fifteen minutes
Let it cool and drink while warm for a soothing effect and instant relief. Your cough should stop soon too.
If you would like to make this mixture into cough drops then add a cup of sugar with all the other ingredients. As it gets hotter it will turn into a much thicker and darker mixture, a bit like treacle or syrup. Before it gets hard, take spoonful of the mixture and drop them on to a tray with baking paper. Keep each drop away from the other, and make them into the size of a normal cough drop.
Leave them to cool and suck as necessary for instant relief.
